4th Class Folklore Project with John Spillane

Today saw the beginning of a very exciting collaboration between John Spillane, local musician and songwriter, and 4th class in Scoil Barra Naofa. John Spillane will be working with the 4th Class boys and girls throughout the month of January, exploring local fairy tales and stories, local history, song writing and poetry writing. John came for his first visit today. He chatted to the children about the local stories of “The Painted Dog” and sang his own song “The Hound that saved the Child” for the children. We shared  stories of Monkstown Castle, The Giant’s Stairs and the Giant Mc Mahon and many more. John worked with the children on songwriting and the boys and girls began work on  their first song together about Monkstown. It was a wonderful experience for the boys and girls and we look forward to further work on our Folklore Project in the New Year. Thank you to John Spillane for his involvement in the project.
