This was a very exciting Eco week for us here in Scoil Barra Naofa. Donncha O’ Callaghan got proceedings off to a great start when he took time out of his busy schedule to come and chat to everyone about the importance of walking and staying fit. We had W.O.W. (walk on a week day) throughout the week with everyone getting lots of exercise! Dasher Dan was delighted to be joined by Lightning Lucy on Thursday! Congratulations to Fourth Class who were the first to make it to London and Fifth Class who were the first to reach Paris. Amsterdam is the next stop! Lots of activities were organised in all the classes around the theme of travel. Fifth Class went on a fun cycle to Hop Island with Mr. Murphy and a Garda cyclist. A great time was had by all. Our thanks to Tim McSweeney for providing a Garda escort and for his help and support with the event. Sixth Class went on a ‘buddy walk’ with Junior Infants. Senior Infants went to the Post Box to post their Aistear letters to Keira in Australia. We had a low energy day and a clothes recycling collection on Thursday. Thanks to Ms. Kelly and Fifth Class for organising today’s assembly and their inspirational ‘Walking to School’ song. Well done to the winners of the week’s competitions : Corey Browne (J.Infs) : Dasher Poster, Ali Hughes (S.Infs.) : Picture of ‘Dasher loves WOW’ (Lucy Heffernan) : Poster of ‘Park and Stride’, Liam O’ Flynn (Second) : Picture ‘It’s Cool to walk to School’, Robyn Murphy (Third) : 3-D Super Hero Walker, Simon Pritchard (Fourth) : Dasher Dan Poem, Ada O’ Connell (Fifth) : Story about our Green Family, Daisy Ryan and Elena Murray (Sixth): Dasher Dan Comic Strip. First Class have won the Golden Boot Award for February. Comhghairdeas! Don’t forget that we have three more days in our Big Travel Challenge. First Class are leading the way at the moment with 235 feet on the board. The efforts to date have been outstanding so keep up the effort! The challenge is on for us to keep walking not just for Eco Week but making it an important part of our daily routine!
