Love Reading Month was an amazing success in Scoil Barra Naofa. Every teacher and student was very enthusiastic and diligent in their participation. All of the classes loved D.E.A.R. and it is hoped that it will be carried on for the rest of the year. The other activities were also excellent and included Book Covers, Book Marks, extra trips to the library, book reviews and reading logs. The Book Swop on Thursday 2nd March allowed the pupils to exchange books with their classmates. Junior Infants did a fantastic poem and song to encourage everyone to keep reading. Our dress up as your favourite book charachter was very enjoyable. All of the costumes were imaginative and inventive making it very hard to pick winners. Timmy from Second Class and Lauren from Third were the lucky recipients of the Easons Gift Cards. The Student Council could not have done this alone. The Parents Association were very involved. Kathryn Jones made amazing book worms and these were awarded to pupils who had made an extra effort to improve their reading over the month. On World Book Day, Junior Infants to Second Class enjoyed CAPER (Children And Parents Enjoy Reading) in the library. The stories were fascinating and all of the pupils loved the experience. Yvonne Clarke and her helpers also have done trojan work in reorganising the library and setting up the new library system. All of the classes are starting to use this and are enjoying it. Thank you to Yvonne and her team. The final message this month from the Student Council is KEEP READING!! Sincere thanks to all of the families who generously donated money to the Readathon. The total raised was an amazing €747. This money will be spent on improving the selection of books in our library and will benefit every pupil in Scoil Barra Naofa. Our thanks to Ms. Marshall and the Student Council for organising this terrific event. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.
