Science Week in Second Class

We carried out a ‘Lemon Acid Experiment’ for Science Week in Second Class .
Everyone in the class got to do the experiment so there was great excitement.
We mixed some washing up liquid, food colouring, baking soda and lemon juice.
We made our predictions first! Some people predicted it would explode, others that it would create a slime and others that it would fizz up.
We added our lemon juice to the mixture and it began to bubble and fizz up!
We learned that when you mix a base or alkaline substance (baking soda) with an acid (lemon juice) a chemical reaction occurs forming carbon dioxide which creates bubbles.
We then added some vinegar (another acid) and some more baking powder to our mixtures and they bubbled up even more!
Great fun was had by all.
