Some April Activities in First Class

We took advantage of the sunshine; heading outside to work on capacity in maths. We had fun estimating, measuring and comparing the capacity of different containers.

Report Writing

As we have begun a new writing genre, we are getting familiar with the layout and type of language used. We took part in shared writing – where students orally constructed sentences for our report about dogs. Teacher modelled how to write these sentences on the report template. Then students copied down the report onto their own template in pairs. Next month we will work towards writing our ideas with greater independence.

Clay tiles inspired by Aboriginal art

Having learned about Aboriginal Australians during our topic on Australia, first class explored Aboriginal artwork and were amazed by the detail and colour. This inspired their own designs on clay tiles. It was messy and lots of fun!
